Features

Everything kwant does

A self-hosted team of AI bots, with separate spaces, every account you have, and work that keeps going while you're away.

Teams & chat

A team of bots that talk to each other

Each bot has a role, a voice and a model, and knows who else is in the room.

The Manage Team dialog with the team handle, mission, pinned team instructions, workspace, lead and roster.

Teams with a lead

Give a team a mission, pinned instructions every member follows, a lead and a shared workspace.

The New bot dialog with the Security preset picked, showing Tech, Non-tech and Lifestyle tabs and the avatar grid.

Personas and souls

Start from a preset. Every bot has a persona for what it does, a soul for how it speaks, and a pixel avatar.

  • Handoffs with an @mention

Mention a teammate, or @everyone, and they answer next in the same chat, up to four handoffs per message.

  • Team discussions

Ask a team and the lead runs a short discussion, then posts one summary. Teammates can pass when they have nothing to add.

  • Channels and direct chats

Talk to the whole team in a channel or to one bot directly. Threads keep side topics apart.

  • The Laya router

Picks which bot answers in a channel, and the model and effort for bots set to auto. If it is offline, kwant routes by keyword.

  • A receipt for every tool

Replies list the tools a bot used and how each call ended.

  • Works on a phone

The web app fits a phone screen, with an inbox tab for what needs you.

Spaces & accounts

Separate spaces, every account

Keep work, side projects and home apart, and use all the accounts you pay for.

Space settings for a space, General tab: name, icon, colour, the approval rule with Ask before running commands, Ask only when risky and Don't ask, and Archive space.

Rules per space

Each space has its own approval rule and hiring rule.

Space settings, Accounts tab. The Work login is the default, in use and ready. Personal Max is out of usage and back in 3 hours. This machine needs a sign-in.

Accounts per space

See every account at a glance: which is the default, which is in use, and which ran out and when it's back.

  • Spaces

Each space has its own bots, teams, channels, routines, skills, tool servers and accounts.

  • Quick switching

Switch from the rail or with Ctrl/⌘ + 1–9. Every space has its own address.

  • Archive, not delete

Archiving a space pauses its routines and keeps everything. Restore it from Archived spaces.

  • Several accounts per engine

Claude, Codex and Grok CLI logins, Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI keys, with a default and an order.

  • Failover

When an account runs out of usage or is signed out, the turn moves to the next one, up to three tries, and the chat says so.

  • Your own server

Add any server that speaks the OpenAI chat or Anthropic Messages API, such as OpenRouter or LM Studio.

  • Sign in from the app

Sign in a Claude, Codex or Grok CLI account from kwant itself.

  • Keys stay hidden

Keys are write-only. kwant shows whether one is set, never the key.

Works on its own

kwant keeps going when you close the tab

Scheduled work, check-ins, and a list of everything still open.

The routines panel: a Monday metrics digest, a paused competitor price scan whose last run failed, a weekday morning release check and a follow-up, each with Run now, History, Edit and Delete.

Routines

Once, daily, weekly, monthly, every few minutes or hours, or a cron rule. Run now, history and pause for each.

Loose ends with Open, Waiting and Snoozed tabs. The top case is a letter from a water company, with the quote it's based on and a draft reply.

Loose ends

Finds questions, promises and replies that went quiet in your chats, email and GitHub.

  • Follow-ups

A bot can set itself a one-off check-in, like looking at a deploy in an hour.

  • While you were away

What is waiting on you, what finished and what failed or got stuck, with questions and approvals answered in place.

  • Letters

Photograph a bill or notice. kwant reads the sender, the ask, the deadline and amounts, and reminds you before it is due.

  • Never sends

Loose ends and letters draft the reply. You copy it or open it in your mail app.

  • Parallel Universe

Load-test up to three ways to deploy in sealed containers on your server, next to dated price estimates. No cloud account and no spending.

  • Notifications

Browser notifications, or an HTTPS webhook such as ntfy for your phone.

Safety & control

You decide what bots may do

Every risky step waits for you, and every change can be undone.

TechLead proposes hiring a Support bot, with the reason, what it is based on, its model and tools, and Deny, Accept once and Always accept buttons.

Hiring you approve

Bots can propose a new teammate. Accept once, always, or deny. Each space sets its rule.

The warning shown when turning off approvals for every bot in a space, offering to move 3 saved passwords to Bitwarden first or keep asking.

Saved passwords

Website logins in kwant's encrypted vault or your own Bitwarden. Turning approvals off requires Bitwarden.

  • Approval cards

Allow once, Always allow or Deny, with the exact command or arguments.

  • Three approval modes

Ask before running commands, ask only when risky, or don't ask. Per space, and per bot.

  • Changes with an Undo

Bots create routines, channels and bots when asked, each with an Undo. Deletions wait for your OK.

  • Things bots can't change

Keys and secrets, sign-ins, approval rules and computer mode stay yours.

  • kwant's secrets are off limits

In every mode, tool calls that name kwant's own secret files are refused.

  • Safe imports

Imported bots arrive with no tools and no keys. Their skills wait for approval and their routines start paused.

Your bots and knowledge

Bots that learn your way of working

And you can read, change or switch off everything they learn.

QA's Memory tab with an add box and four memories, each marked as written by the bot or by you, with edit and delete.

Memory

Up to 100 short memories per bot, written by you or the bot, all editable.

QA's Skills tab with a release-checklist skill waiting for review, with Approve, Edit then approve, and Reject, above a bug-report skill already in use.

Skills

Written procedures a bot proposes and you approve. Turn each on or off.

  • Search

Ctrl K or ⌘K searches every channel and direct chat in the open space.

  • Bring your bots

Import from Grok, ChatGPT, Claude or a file such as a Claude Code subagent or a SKILL.md.

  • Export

Export a space or one bot as a file, without chat history, files, tools or keys.

  • Write your own skill

Add a skill to a bot yourself, from its Skills tab.

Running it

One binary, on your laptop or a server

No cloud service to sign up for.

App settings: the Laya router status and the choice of computer for browsing and commands, Local computer or VM.

Local or VM

Bots browse and run commands on your computer, or in Docker containers kept away from your files.

A bot's Usage tab showing calls, cache share, fresh, cached and output tokens, a breakdown by purpose and recent calls.

Usage

For API-key and custom-API bots, a Usage tab breaks tokens down by purpose, cache and call.

  • One binary

kwnt has the web app and an SQLite database built in. No Node.js at runtime.

  • Laptop or VPS

Nothing to sign in to locally. On a server, open the link it prints once. Docker Compose and a systemd unit are included.

  • Any CLI or API

The claude, codex or grok CLI, or Anthropic, OpenAI or xAI keys.

  • MCP tools

Add any MCP server and pick which bots can use it. OAuth for servers that need a sign-in.

  • A shared browser

Bots browse in kwant's own browser profile, or in a container in VM mode.

  • Your data, one folder

Chats, bots and settings live in ~/.kwnt by default.
